Air Fryer Beer-Battered Cod
Take your fish and chips night to the next level with this crispy, golden Air Fryer beer-battered cod cooked to perfection in the air fryer. Light, flaky, and irresistibly delicious!
Ingredients:
4 cod fillets (about 6 oz each)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
¾ cup cold beer (light beer works best)
1 egg
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Cooking spray
Lemon wedges, for serving
Tartar sauce or malt vinegar (optional, for dipping)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Cod:
Rinse the cod fillets and pat them dry with paper towels.
If the fillets are thick, cut them in half for even cooking.
2. Make the Batter:
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Add the egg and cold beer, whisking until smooth. The batter should be slightly thick but not runny.
3. Prepare the Coating:
Place the panko breadcrumbs in a shallow dish.
Dip each cod fillet into the beer batter, letting the excess drip off, and then coat it evenly in panko breadcrumbs. Gently press the breadcrumbs onto the fillets for better adherence.
4. Preheat the Air Fryer:
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
5. Cook the Cod:
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Arrange the breaded cod fillets in a single layer in the basket, making sure not to overcrowd them.
Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 12-14 minutes, flipping halfway through. The fish should be golden brown and flaky inside.
6. Serve:
Carefully remove the cod from the air fryer and transfer to a serving platter.
Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or malt vinegar.
Pro Tips for Success:
Keep the Batter Cold: A cold beer and batter help create a crispier coating. Place the bowl in the fridge if needed between batches.
Avoid Overcrowding: Cook the fillets in batches to ensure they crisp up evenly.
Non-Alcoholic Option: Substitute sparkling water or club soda for beer if you prefer an alcohol-free recipe.
Serving Suggestions:
Pair this crispy cod with:
Sides: Classic fries, sweet potato wedges, or coleslaw for a traditional fish and chips experience.
